PALM HARBOR – In anticipation of the opening of the newly expanded East Lake Community Library, library officials held a Sneak Peek wine and cheese event Sept. 1 showcasing their new facilities and a program called Art@East Lake.
The program will feature the art of a new, local artist each month. The art will be displayed in the library’s new Community Room, which is scheduled to be used as a multipurpose gathering place for library users, children’s groups clubs and as a venue for community events.
Local artist Scott Menaul is the first artist to be featured in the program.
Menaul, whose creations are known for the vibrant use of color and reflective abstraction, is a photographer/artist who uses a hybrid of computer graphics programs and a printing technique called Giclée (pronounced zhee-clay) to create one-of-a-kind, personalized art.
Menaul who admits he is not a classical artist first won acclaim in Boston where his commercial digital photography became collectable as clients began demanding prints as personalized art for their offices and homes.
The artist won award after award. The advertising graphics business he and his wife Jerri built soon turned to a new endeavor, commissioned art for interiorscapes.
“I found that I could use my particular skill set,” Menaul said, “to create something people wanted in their homes.”
The Menauls moved to Clearwater and established Menaul Fine Art in 2003. Menaul agreed for this premiere showing to donate a percentage of any sales that result to the library expansion project. The couple’s gallery at 1750 N. Hercules Ave. contains broad sampling of his striking art as well as a print shop, gourmet kitchen, and consultation room where clients can discuss turning family photos into art prints.
The service is called the “Canvas Zoo” where the Menauls and their team turn photos of children, pets, graduations, weddings, anything at all into canvas art suitable for framing.
The Menaul exhibit will be on display at East Like Library through the end of September.
Artists who wish to participate in the Art@East Lake exhibit schedule should contact East Lake Library director Patricia Perez at 726-7411.
